Professor Taj Nathan
Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
Professor Nathan graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1991 and completed training in psychiatry in Yorkshire and Merseyside. In 2001 he was appointed as a consultant forensic psychiatrist in the NHS and since then he has worked in a wide range of settings including the community, prisons, non-secure and secure hospitals. He has held NHS clinical managerial posts and led the development of innovative services.
Professor Nathan is a Visiting Professor at the University of Chester and an Adjunct Professor at Liverpool John Moores University. He has undertaken postgraduate study at the Universities of Oxford, Liverpool and Leeds and continues to lead research in a range of areas (including risk, safety and clinical decision-making).
For over 26 years, Professor Nathan has continuously acted as an independent expert witness in a wide range of legal forums. As well as the regular provision of expert reports, he has extensive experience of giving oral evidence including in criminal courts, tribunals, civil courts and other judicial and quasi-judicial forums.
Professor Nathan has published work on the role of an expert witness, provided training in expert witness work and delivered seminars to barristers' chambers in the North West of England.
